496,808. Centrifugal separators. TER MEER, G. Aug. 26, 1938, No. 25102. Convention date, Aug. 26, 1937. [Class 23] A centrifugal separator has two overhung separating drums 10 with perforated walls mounted on opposite ends of a horizontal hollow shaft 1 running in two bearings 3. The shaft is expanded to form a cylinder 4 between the bearings, and this cylinder contains a piston 5 attached by a rod 6 to sliding push bottoms 7 in the drums 10. Material is supplied through the inlet pipes 8 and hoppers 9 ; the moisture passes through the drum walls to the chambers 11 and the solids are thrust into the chambers 12 by the push bottoms 7 actuated by pressure fluid supplied to the cylinder 4 through passages in the bearings. The cylinder 4 also serves as a pulley for a belt drive.
