Abstract

Density separotors.-A centrifugal machine for purifying liquids such as oil and the like, has a bowl a mounted upon a hollow shaft resting in bearings d, e provided with spring supports s. The shaft is divided by a wall w into inlet and outlet chambers l, o which are in communication with pipes i, r through radial ports. Springs f connect plugs with holes t in the chambers l, o, to thrust bearing plugs g in engagement with abutments h at the end of the bearings. Grooves on the shaft or packing boxes may be used to prevent liquid from leaking to the bearings. The machine may be driven by a belt on the pulley v or by worm or toothed gearing; the shaft may be prolonged beyond the bearings and the extended part may carry the driving devices. The single shaft may be replaced by two shafts each containing a chamber connected with openings in the centrifugal bowl. The pipes i, r may be connected in place of the abutments h.
