Abstract

396,821. Centrifugal separators. SCHULZ, H., 87, Berliner Strasse, Tempelhof, Berlin. Feb. 18, 1932, No. 4806. [Class 23.] A centrifuge for the continuous separation of solids from liquids has a drum slowly rotated inside a rapidly rotated housing ; cells are provided on the periphery of the drum and have outwardly directed apertures which are closed except at certain discharge places near the axis of the housing. The housing 1 is supported in bearings 2, 3 and is driven by means of the belt pulley 4. The drum 11 is provided with floats 33 on each end and is carried on the shaft 13, Fig. 3, having free play in bearings 14 on the housing wall. The drum is connected by bevel and toothed gearing to the fixed shaft 5 on which the housing rotates. An inlet pipe 15, for liquid to be treated, passes through the housing at the bearing 3 and communicates with radial pipes 18, Fig. 2. These pipes convey the liquid to cells 19 on the interior of the drum wall. The solids are deposited in the cells while the liquid flows over the edges 20 into the housing where it forms a ring in which floats the drum and its associated parts ; the liquid passes out by the exits 26. Outwardlydirected apertures serve for the discharge of solids from the cells 19, and they are opened and closed periodically by flaps 21. They are kept closed while the flaps travel round the tracks 22, but the flaps are thrown outwards by centrifugal force as the cells reach the discharge points 39. The solids are then thrown out through passages 24 to the discharge channels 25.
