Abstract

1360913 Centrifugal hydroextractors B LEGA and G CECCHI 23 March 1972 [23 March 1971] 13718/72 Heading F4G [Also in Division F2] Textile fibres are fed continuously via a hopper 30<SP>1</SP> to a dispenser 16 rotating within a rotating centrifuging basket 15 closed by a rotating valve disc 33 having ports 48, 49 through which the dried material is discharged to a stationary collector chamber 31; the basket 15, and the disc 33 and dispenser 16, are rotated at slightly different speeds by an epicyclic gear train 42. Dispenser 16 comprises blades 25<SP>1</SP>, 26<SP>1</SP> secured to the valve disc 33 and a base 23, and having outer ends 25<SP>11</SP>, 26<SP>11</SP> curved in the direction opposite to the direction of motion of the blades relative to the basket 15. The disc 33 and dispenser 16 may be rotated more slowly than the basket 15 (as in Fig. 2), or faster than the basket 15. The material follows the motion of the basket 15 which may have entraining strips 17<SP>1</SP> secured to it, and which may be perforated or unperforated. Valve disc 33 may be connected by blades (not shown) with a further lower valve disc connected to further blades, the material being fed to below the lower valve disc and then dried in two stages. Epicyclic gear train 42 decreases the effects of the different diameters of pulleys 36, 37 and 40, 41, the pulleys 36, 37 being driven via an hydraulic clutch 35 by an electric motor 34, and driving the pulleys 40, 41 by way of belts 38, 39. The pulley 40 is fixed to the outer shaft 19 and carries three equi-angularly spaced pins 70, 71, 72 on each of which two double idler pinions 73, 74 and 75, 76 are rotatable. A gear 77 is keyed to the inner shaft 24 on which a double idler pinion 78, 79 and a pinion 80 (fixed to the pulley 41) are rotatable. In Figs. 11 and 12 (not shown), the bottom wall 18 of the basket 15 comprises a first part fixed to the shaft 19 and a second part bolted to the first part and forming a seating to which the bracket 15 is fixed. A flange depending from the second part encircles a flange upstanding from the trough 20 to prevent water leaking to the drive. The outer shaft 19 is pressure-lubricated by a pump on the pulley 40. The base 23 and disc 33 are connected by bolts. The cup 81 bolted to a block is rotatable on and axially supported by a block fixed to the lower end 24<SP>1</SP> of the shaft 24. In Fig. 13 (not shown), the dispenser 16 comprises three blades and the valve disc 33 has three ports. In Fig. 14 (not shown), a curved surface is provided behind each of the outer ends 25<SP>11</SP>, 26<SP>11</SP> of the dispenser blades, the curved surfaces diverging from the basket surface in the direction of rotation thereof. Baffles are mounted on the disc 33 at the rear edge of each discharge port.
