Abstract
505,529. Discharge valves and valve circuits. AKTIEBOLAGET ELEKTROD. June 22, 1938, No. 18505. Convention date, June 25, 1937. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (v)] In a gas and/or vapour filled relay or switch the discharge from anode 3 to cathode 4 is started by causing a glow discharge between the anode and an auxiliary electrode 11 by applying a negative bias to the auxiliary electrode; an additional negatively-biassed electrode 10 acts as blocking means to prevent discharge below a definite potential. The negative bias to the electrode 11 may be applied from a battery or from an incoming signal; the signal may be applied to a biassed, electrode. The relay may act as a switch in an independent. circuit supplied with A.C. and connected to the relay through condensers. The cathode is self-heating and may consist of a number of barium coated wires 17, Fig. 5, the lower part of which have an insulating shield 18; the auxiliary electrode 11 projects through a hole in the anode 19 and the tip 21 of the electrode 11 may be activated while the remainder may be lacquered. In a modification the auxiliary electrode is of grid form surrounding the cathode. The blocking electrode may be coated with carbon. Specification 358,550 is referred to.
