Abstract
521,942. Thermionic valve circuits. THORNTON, A. A. (Philco Radio & Television Corporation). Aug. 26, 1938, No. 25122. [Class 40 (v)] The cathode or filament of a valve is rendered electron emitting in reduced time by initially applying an excess voltage or by the discharge of a condenser. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement in which the high tension voltage B is momentarily applied while switch arm S engages contact 1 before the application of the normal voltage A. The filament may be entirely energized from the high voltage source by repeated short applications of high voltage, Fig. 2 (not shown). Fig. 4 shows an arrangement in which heating is effected by the successive discharging of condenser C which is charged through a resistance R. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), closure of the switch discharges the condenser and heating is maintained by the battery and resistance in series. Alternatively the initial heating may be by condenser discharge and the heating be maintained from a low voltage source, Fig. 5 (not shown).
