Abstract

217,230. Huth Ges., Dr. E. F. June 5, 1923, [Convention date]. Thermionic value circuits.-A sudden drop of a discontinuous character is effected in the internal resistance of an electric discharge device, operating by gas ionization or by thermionic or electric discharge, which drop remains stationary by first applying a high voltage to the auxiliary electrode and then removing it. The voltage is positive with respect to the cathode and may be applied by bridging over a portion of the discharge path by a resistance, capacity or inductance or by a combination thereof. Fig. 6 shows a thermionic tube having a condenser c and resistance r bridging the anode a and grid g arranged to generate oscillations in a circuit C, L. R. The variation of the internal resistance R is shovn in Fig. 5 relatively to the anode voltage Va, the dotted curve showing normal operation while the full curve shows the effect of the break-down of the resistance due to the application of the voltage to the auxiliary electrode. In modifications the variation of the internal resistance is obtained by applying temporarily a voltage between the grid and cathode, or a voltage between the grid and anode, or in a four electrode valve by applying one voltage between the anode and one grid and a second voltage between the cathode and the second grid, or bv magnetic control for at least a portion of the discharge path.
