Abstract

500,886. Stapling and mixing fibres. GROVES, W. W. (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges.) Aug. 19, 1937, No. 22745. [Class 120 (iii)] [Also in Group IV] An artificial staple fibre mixture is made by spinning continuous threads of different titre, collecting the threads in one or more bands or bundles, cutting or tearing the band or bands into staple fibres of different lengths and loosening and mixing the fibres with the aid of a moving liquid. The threads of different titre are produced by using, in the spinning machine, nozzles with different numbers of perforations, by feeding the different'nozzles with the spinning solutions by pumps having different outputs, by feeding the different nozzles with the solutions under different pressures, by feeding the different spinning pumps with solutions of the thread-forming substance of different concentrations, or by conducting the different bundles to the cutting machine under different drafts, or by combining two or more of these methods. The bundles of continuous threads may be torn in the apparatus described in Specification 416,636 or the several bands may be separated and cut in different machines or by knives arranged on a roller at different distances from each other or by knife rollers driven at different speeds.
