Abstract
528,045. Stapling filaments. HADDAN, R. (Phrix-Arbeitsgemeinschaft). April 12, 1939, No. 11101. [Class 120 (iii)] Artificial fibres in the form of a sliver or ribbon are passed through a cutter adapted to make oblique cuts across the ribbon at intervals corresponding to the staple length and then through a drawing frame wherein the rollers are so spaced that in the course of passing through the frame each of the cut sections is gripped simultaneously by at least two pairs of draft rollers. The effect is that the tips of cut filaments are subjected to a drawing action not extending to such filaments as are not yet nipped by the second pair of rollers so that the drawn filaments slide along the sides of those not drawn, breaking down adhesion. The cuts may be of V-shape and may be produced by rotating cylinders having a sharp-edged worm composed of a right and left hand part, as shown in Fig. 6. In the machine shown in Fig. 8, slivers from several spools 2 are passed beneath a spring-loaded cutter cylinder 9, shown in detail in Fig. 5, and the obliquely-cut strips are then led through a drawing frame containing pairs of rollers 13, 14, 15 spaced apart so as to produce the drawing effect referred to above. Specifications 434,250 and 514,564 are referred to.
