Abstract
473,552. Stapling fibres by drawing or drafting. LOHRKE, J. L. April 14, 1936, No. 10742. Convention date, April 13, 1935. [Class 120 (iii)] Yarn is produced from a sliver composed of a multiplicity of substantially continuous fibres grouped in substantial parallelism while maintaining the substantial parallelism of the fibres and the continuity of the sliver by applying tension to successive portions of the fibres to break them to over-size staple length and thereafter applying tension to the oversize staple lengths produced to break them to staple fibres having a length not greater than that desired in the yarn. The process is carried out by drafting the sliver between a group of rollers separated by a distance substantially greater than the maximum length of staple desired in the yarn so as to break the fibres to over-size staple fibres and to draft the sliver, and then passing the resulting sliver through a second group of drafting rollers having a spacing equal to the length of staple desired in the yarn, so as to break the over-size staples and to draft the sliver. Specification 376,799 is referred to.
