399,262. Producing yarn rovings. SCHMITT, G. A., 7th Street, Philadelphia, U.S.A. May 25, 1932, No. 14844. Convention date, March 4. Drawings to Specification. [Class 120 (iii).] In the production of yarn rovings from grouped slivers of prepared fibres which are formed into a number of independent webs and superposed to form a relatively thick assembled web, the assembled web is reduced to a relatively thin final web suitable for roving by passage through not more than two gilling machines, i.e. by the substitution of not more than two drafting operations, carried out in gilling machines, for the several drafting operations hitherto usual. The final web is passed directly through dividing and rubbing apparatus to form individual rovings, or may first be wound as a package having a separating cloth inserted between adjacent layers and then subjected to the dividing and rubbing operations.
