Abstract

466,695. Decorticating bast fibre stalks. ETRICH, I. Aug. 15, 1936, No. 22532. Convention date, Oct. 7, 1935. [Class 120 (i)] In a machine for decorticating bast fibre stalks having overlapping scraping knives 2, 2<1>, Fig. 1, which move in a straight line in the working zone, the knives interengage in pairs at a small distance apart and tension devices 3, 3<1> movable with the knives are provided in front thereof, only one pair of knives together with its corresponding tension devices being in engagement with the stalks at any time. The scraping knives 2, 2<1> are mounted on endless carriers 1, 1<1>, e.g. chains or rubber bands. The tension devices 3, 3<1> may be of flat strip form Fig. 2, having straight or wavy working edges, or rounded as shown in Fig. 3. Alternatively, when treating retted fibres a tensioning comb 4, Fig. 4, is substituted. In operation, the stalks 5 are bent sharply between the knives 2, 2<1> which scrape along the bent stalks and the necessary tension is produced by the members 3, 3<1> which may be separated by a greater distance than the knives 2, 2<1>.
