608,777. Rubber-rolling machines. REDFERN'S RUBBER WORKS, Ltd., and BROWN, F. E. Jan. 9, 1946, No. 808. [Class 87(ii)] [Also in Group II] A machine in which rubber or the like is caused to travel axially while being worked in a space between a main working roller 13, Fig 1, and a stationary surface, which at least at the input end surrounds a substantial part but not the whole of the working roller, the rubber being forced into this space through a nip between the working roller and a feed roller, comprises two continuously effective scraper blades one of which 24 bears against the feed roller to ensure that rubber after passing through the nip between the working and feed rollers moves round with the working roller, and the other of which 25 extends over part of the working roller at its output end and bears against that roller to remove the worked rubber from the working roller as a continuous strip or to divert the worked rubber on to another roller from which it may be removed as a continuous strip. A slitting knife 26 may extend radially into the nip of the rolls so as to make a continuous cut into the rubber emerging from the rolls. The jacketed casing 21 may be heated or cooled by steam, oil or water. In a modification (Figs 5 and 6, not shown), a pair of edge-trimming cutting knives are so arranged that rubber leaves in a strip of predetermined width. In a further modification (Figs. 7 and 8, not shown), the casing at the output end of the rolls is in part removed and replaced by an endless belt which can be removed for cleaning.
