669,323. Hackling and spreading machines for jute &c. MACKIE & SONS, Ltd., J., and MACKIE, J. P. Dec. 15, 1949 [Dec. 16, 1948], No. 32633/48. Class 120(i) In a "Good's" type hackling and spreading machine for long staple hard fibres such as jute, having hackle bars travelling around guide tracks and provided with pins for engaging with the fibres, fast-running hackle bars d are not connected to each other but are spaced apart by discs i and are pushed around their guide tracks f by sprockets l or equivalent driving means, while the angular positions of the hackle pins e are determined by crank arms h at the ends of the bars operating in separate tracks g. The bars may be cranked alternately at opposite ends. As shown, slowrunning hackle bars c are constructed and operated similarly to bars d. Lantern rollers. n are provided to press the fibres down into engagement with the pins on bars c, and a roller p to bear on the fibre as they pass from the slow to the fast running portion of the machine to ensure effective engagement of the fibres with the pins on. bars d.
