Abstract
740,425. Textile gill frames. MACKIE & SONS, Ltd., J. Aug. 30, 1954 [Sept. 11, 1953], No. 25207/53. Class 120 (1). In a hackling machine of the type described in Specification 669,323, control of the long vegetable fibres, e.g. manilla, sisal, or jute, leaving a set of slow-running hackle-bars 17 and being engaged by the pins 2 of a set of fastrunning hackle-bars 1 is ensured by reducing the nip between the two sets; the bars 1 separated by spacers 4 are driven up a portion 12 of a guide track 3 which slopes upwardly from a driving sprocket 11 towards the delivery end of the bars 17 so that they move around a sharp corner 14 of at least a right angle in passing to the upper reach 13. The angular positions of the bars 1 are controlled by followers 6 and 7, carried by dogs 5 on opposite ends of alternate bars, which co-operate with tracks 8 and 9 and 10; as shown, they change direction by approximately 130 degrees at the corner 14 around which they are driven by sprockets, as at 15; additional sprockets, as at 20, may be free or driven.
