Abstract
499,898. Compressing stranded conductors. CALLENDER'S CABLE & CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd., and HARRIS, G. M. Sept. 3, 1937, No. 24142. [Class 83 (iv)] Rolling.-A stranded &c. conductor 1 is radially compressed and consolidated between two or more skew rolls 3, rotated from a chain wheel 11 by epicyclic gearing 17, 18 about their own axes and also spun round about the conductor axis by rotation of the roll housing 4 driven by another chain wheel 20. True rolling contact is obtained by adjusting the relative speeds of the sprockets 11 and 20 in relation to the travel of the . conductor through the mill. Pass adjustment is obtained by a worm and screw which rotates the sleeve 16 carrying the bearings 13, the other bearings 12 and the pinion 17 being made to allow for this play.
