Abstract
1440633 Rolling mills FRIEDRICH KOCKS 30 Nov 1973 [2 Dec 1872] 55619/73 Heading B3M A roll stand for rolling wire or tube has at least three rolls 2 which are simultaneously radially adjustable by means of a common adjusting spindle 12. Each roll is carried on a driven shaft 4, Fig. 1, which is supported by bearings 6, 6a and 8 in respective bushes 7 and 7a. The bushes, when rotatably adjusted within the stand housing 1 by means of the spindle 12, cause an eccentric adjustment of the shafts and rolls in a radial direction. The bushes 7 are coupled together by bevel gears 11 to ensure simultaneous movement of the rolls. Each roll may have an outer annulus 2a clamped between two discs 2. The discs are mounted on portions 4a and 4b of the shaft 4 which are clamped together by a central draw bolt 5. The roll may be adjusted axially by rotating a threaded collar 9 within the bush 7a. The collar may also be used for allowing removal of the annulus 2a by moving the discs 2b apart, after withdrawing the bolt 5. In an alternative form, Fig. 3, the bushes 7 are similarly adjusted, but the rolls are driven by a common spindle 22. Bevel gearing 23 couples the shafts together for common rotation. Since radial adjustment of the rolls then interferes with correct meshing of the gearing 23, the bushes are arranged to move. axially during their rotational adjustment. This is effected by externally threaded rings 24 which co-operate with fixed threaded stops (Fig. 5, not shown). Alternatively, the gearing 23 may be made independent of radial adjustment of the rolls (Fig. 7, not shown). In this case, the shaft parts 4b co-operate by, e.g. a toothed connection with the interior of bushes carrying the gearing. The roll stand can process hot or cold stock, and the rolls can be mounted on tapered portions of the shafts 4, in which case pressurized oil may be employed for their removal from the shafts.
