In a rolling mill comprising sets of cooperating rolls 16-18 the rolls of each set are driven from a single input shaft through bevel reduction gearing. Shafts 2-4 are driven through 1 : 1 bevel gearing, these shafts driving further roll driving shafts 13-15 through bevel gearing having a reduction ratio of from 1 : 2 to 1 : 2À5.
