Abstract

[Also in Division F2] A finish-sizing rolling mill incorporates tandem stands 1-3 which are driven through gearing by a common motor 4, the first stand 1 being driven solely by the motor, whereas the stands 2 and 3 are additionally driven by individual motors 9 and 10. The driving arrangement allows a workpiece to pass through the roll gaps of the three stands without interstand tension. The stands 2 and 3 each have a ring gear driven by the motor 4 and a sun gear 18 driven by the additional motor, a planet carrier 17 serving as an output member for driving the rolls of the stand. The rolls of the three stands define roll gaps of the same size, and are rotated at the same speed when the motors 9 and 10 are not operated.
