Abstract

1364156 Rolling mill entry guides COPPER REFINERIES PTY Ltd 13 Nov 1972 [18 Nov 1971] 52400/72 Heading B3M The entry guide to a plural strand rolling mill comprises a pair of opposed double-grooved freely rota table rollers having axes parallel to those of the mill rolls. Stock to be rolled enters the grooves alternately, so that when a leading end encounters the rollers, they are being driven at the correct speed by a length of stock already passing through. As shown, the guide comprises two body parts 6, 7 spaced by adjustable set screws 13, located by dowels 11 and holes 12, and secured together by machine bolts (not shown). The rollers 18 are freely rotatable on shaft 17 non-rotatably secured in the body parts (see Fig. 3, not shown). Tapered runway grooves 15 in the body parts have flared entry ends (not shown). The stock is preferably of elliptical section, which contacts the floors of the roller grooves at the flattened ends of its major axis. The mill rolls may be of the kind supported by journals at each end, or at one end only.
