Abstract
1339606 Skew rolling J L SEMENENKO N I STARUSHKIN V N IGNATOV and O A RUSANOV 1 April 1971 8778/71 Heading B3M A rod or tube straightening machine comprises a base 1, obliquely mounted back-up and presser rolls 17 and 7 respectively, each of said rolls having at least two spaced apart contact bands 24 and 22 respectively, the presser roll bands being located between the back-up bands, roller guides 26 for aligning the workpiece 9, means for rotating the rolls and means for adjusting the distance between the rolls and the guides. A cross head 3 on the base mounts a turnplate 4 which carries the presser roll 7 and is vertically adjustable by a gear drive 5. A device 10 sets the skew angle of the presser roll which is driven by an electric motor (13, Fig. 2, not shown) via a cardan shaft 11 and a speed reducer 12. A turnplate 15 rotatable by a device 18 carries the back-up roll 17 which is also driven by an electric motor (21, Fig. 2, not shown), cardan shaft 19 and a speed reducer (20). Installed in the space formed by the grooves in the rolls 17 and 7 are the guide rollers 26 set at an adjustable distance apart and at an adjustable angle to the longitudinal axis 8 of the workpiece. The guide rollers have a concave hyper. boloid surface which effects a polishing action on the workpiece so that as it passes through the skew rolls 17 and 7 it is straightened and polished simultaneously.
