Abstract

1357167 Coiling strip to form a tube BLOHM & VOSS AG 29 Sept 1971 [30 Oct 1970] 45287/71 Headings B3E and B3A A device for forming a strip helically into a pipe comprises an internal bending roll 10, Fig. 1, and two external bending rolls (30), 31, Fig. 3, the bending rolls being movable during forming of the pipe in a direction radially of their longitudinal axes, and sensing means for measuring deviations of the diameter of the formed pipe from a desired pipe diameter and moving the internal bending roll and/or the external bending rolls radially so as to compensate for the measured deviations. The internal bending roll 10 comprises a carrier 12 and rollers 11 and a bearing holder 13 supports the carrier 12 for axial displacement by means of a toothed rack 21 and drive 22. The holder 13 is adjustable vertically by displaceable wedge drives 15 and the carrier 12 is positioned horizontally by a slope measuring device 20 which actuates a motor 19 to rotate an eccentric shaft 18 mounted on a support 14<SP>1</SP> of the holder 13. The carrier 12 also carries a support 23 having rollers 25, Fig. 2, which press against the inner wall of the tube. The external bending rolls (30), 31 each comprise a carrier and rollers 32, each carrier being displaceable vertically by movement of a wedge 35 relative to a wedge 33 and displaceable axially by the simultaneous movement of both wedges. The wedges 33 also have wedge drives mounted on their sides to effect horizontal displacement of the outer roll carriers. The rollers 11 and 32 can be moved angularly relative to their carriers to allow for small variations in the angle of feed of the strip. A curvature sensing device (17, Fig. 4) is coupled to a control circuit which controls drive 16 to change the height of roll 10 to correct constantly any deviations from a desired diameter. The sensor may also be coupled to the rolls (30), 31.
