Abstract

498,386. Moulding concrete slabs. STENT PRECAST CONCRETE, Ltd., and STENT, D. H. July 2, 1937, Nos. 18490 and 18491. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group X] A composite concrete slab 1 comprises an impervious facing layer 2 made by pressing the concrete while still green and a backing layer 3 which may consist of porous concrete and is preferably also pressed, some bars 4 of an embedded reinforcement 5 protruding from the back of the slab. The bars 4 are preferably springy so that on the removal of pressure they spring up out of the concrete. The slab may form part of a hollow or solid building block. In making the hollow block shown in Fig. 3, slabs 1, 6 are positioned in a mould and, with the aid of shuttering, connecting diaphragms 7 are cast to enclose the protruding bars 4. Ribs 8 may be provided on the rear slab 6 which may be made by any known means. The diaphragms need not extend the full height of the slabs and horizontal concrete beams may be cast in a wall by small slabs supported on these diaphragms. The face of the slab 1 may represent brickwork, stonework, &c.
