Abstract

498,350. Valves; pumps. TRIGGS, W. W. (Trico Products Corporation) Dec. 7, 1937, No. 33810. [Class 135] [Also in Groups XXVI and XXVIII] A snap-action valve mechanism for a fluid motor for pumping fuel from a tank to a carburetter comprises a bowed spring 56 which co-operates with a suction port 61 in communication through a conduit 18 with the induction pipe of the engine and an atmospheric port 58. In the position shown in Fig. 2, the atmospheric port 58 is closed and the suction acts upon a bellows 44a, which serves for pumping the fuel from an inlet 32 to an outlet 41, to contract it against the pressure of a spring 47. A rod 48 connected to the bellows acts on contraction of the bellows against the spring valve member in a manner as shown in Fig. 3, until it snaps over to close the suction port 61 and open the atmospheric port 58. The spring 47 then returns the bellows to its extended position and in so doing snaps the valve 56 back again for the cycle of operations to be repeated. In a modification a diaphragm is utilized in place of the bellows 44a.
