Abstract
507,740. Centrifugal pumps. COVENTRY CLIMAX ENGINES, Ltd. HATHAWAY, L., and WOODDISSE, J. T. Aug. 16, 1938, No. 34315. Divided out of 507,716. [Class 110 (i)] A pump P, driven by an internal-combustion engine 13, is primed by the diversion of the exhaust gases from their normal outlet pipe 15, to a restricted orifice 18 and thus causing suction in a pipe 21. A lever 29, biassed by a spring to the position shown, is pulled over to close a valve 16, and afterwards open a valve 28 to create the suction to the pump inlet pipe 22. Liquid drawn up from the latter is held by a trap 23, in the manner described in Specification 507,716. A pipe may connect the outlet 20 to the silencer 32, as described in Specification 507,717. Lost motion in the linkage 30 is secured by a pin- and-slot connection 30a. Fig. 2 shows a pet cock 33 provided on the suction side of valve chamber 27, which has to be opened before the lever 29 may be moved downwards a sufficient distance, to allow the opening of the valve 28.
