Abstract

497,003. Saddles. McCULLOCH, R. W. May 10, 1937, No. 13267. [Class 136 (iii)] In a cycle saddle wherein the top is pivoted to the underframe so that it can be turned over to expose a tyre pump mounted in the seat tube (e.g. as in Specification 485,615), or to prevent the seating surface becoming wet, an upper frame or top carrying the seat is pivoted at one end to a spring underframe, and is adapted to be interlocked therewith at the other end when in the normal riding position, under spring action and/or under the weight of the rider. The upper frame comprises two forwardlyconverging longitudinal members 17 provided at their front ends with depending hooks 22, the seat proper being stretched between a cantle plate 21 and a peak plate 25, which is carried by a tensioning-screw 24 engaging a bridge-piece 23. The upper frame 17 is pivoted by means of a transverse pin 27 to a resilient underframe formed of two longitudinal members 28, which are provided with spring coils 31 and are united at the front by a downturned cross-piece 29 adapted to interlock with the hooks 22. The underframe members 28 are clamped to the seat pillar 2 by a triple clip having a single cross-bolt 34.
