688,738. Saddles and seats for motor-cycles. FERIDAX, Ltd. Aug. 7, 1951 [April 7, 1951 ], No. 8117/51. Class 136 (iii) In a combined saddle and pillion seat for motorcycles a rigid frame 4 outlines the saddle and seat and a system of steel wire springs is arranged longitudinally in and is supported from the frame, each spring consisting of a convex member formed with several zig-zag loops 12 over the entire or a greater part of its length and by a cushion 1, 2 connected to the frame 4 and resting on the convex springs, the arrangement being such that under load the springs tend to flatten and the loops contract and expand. The cushion is made of sponge rubber and is connected to the frame 4 by a cover 23. Knee grips 3 are formed between the saddle 1 and seat 2. Transverse bars 8, 9 form the peak of the saddle and the back of the seat respectively. Lugs 10, 11 connect the saddle and seat to the motor-cycle frame. Brackets 14 connect the springs to the bars 8, 9 or to intermediate tie bars 15, 16. A central main spring 17 is connected to the bars 8, 9 and two outer springs 18 are connected to the bars 15, 16. Two springs 19 are connected to the bar 9 and to intermediate points 20 of the outer springs 18. A short spring 21 is connected to the bar 16 and at 22 to the spring 17.
