Abstract

809,087. Cycle saddles BROOKS INDUSTRIES Ltd., J. B., [formerly BROOKS & CO. Ltd., J. B.]. June 11, 1957 [July 2, 1956], No. 20349/56. Class 136(3) [Also in Group XIV] A cycle saddle or office seat comprises a moulded one-piece rubber top 1 consisting of two superimposed layers 1a and 1b joined at the front and rear only to provide pockets and leaving side openings 4 between the two layers, the lower layer 1b having a central longitudinal slit 5. The top 1 is stretched over an underframe 6 having front and rear upwardly-bent portions engaging in the front and rear pockets of the top 1 and having two stepdown side portions 6b passing through the side opening 4 and connected to the saddle or seat support. The underframe 6 may be formed from a single length of rod and its set down portions are held in channels in a clamp 7-8 by a nut 10. The clamp 7-8 is hinged at 11 to a bar 12 which attaches it to a pillar of the cycle frame or support at 13. A rubber pad 14 in interposed between the clamp 7-8 and the bar 12 as a shock absorber. Other embodiments illustrate the use of a conventional 3-part adjustable clamp in place of the clamp 7-8 and the shock absorber 14 (Fig. 6, not shown) and an alternative underframe formed as a separate forward and back loops which are united with their ends abutting by the clamp 7-8.
