Abstract

645,815. Combined saddle and pillion seats for motor-cycles. WHITEHEAD, E. Oct. 21, 1948, No. 27345. [Class 136 (iii)] In a combined saddle and pillion seat for a motor cycle each part consists of tension springs 24, 17 connected intermediate the ends of the combined saddle and pillion seat to a transverse bar 16 which is supported by the usual saddle springs 19. The combined saddle and pillion seat comprises a metal under frame having a saddle-shaped forward part 10 and a parallel rear part 11. The under frame is shaped at its forward end to form an inverted U-shaped part 12 adapted to be attached to the usual saddle bolt. The rear part 11 is provided with holes 15 for struts connecting it to the motor-cycle frame. The tension springs 24 extend from the part 12 to the bar 16 and the springs 17 from the bar to a slightly arched transverse member 18 at the rear of the under frame. The bar 16 is bent rearwardly at its centre 16a. Reinforcement strips 30 are provided on the inside of the under frame.
