Abstract

493,591. Two - stroke - cycle radial - cylinder engines. MAWEN. Feb. 9, 1938, No. 4104. Convention date, Feb. 12, 1937. [Class 7 (ii)] The cylinder-block 16 rotates within a ring 1 containing injection and ignition devices, and exhaust ports 2. The interior surface of the ring is spherical and is maintained in contact with hollow sealing members 18 mounted in the open ends of the cylinders. Scavenging and charging air is supplied to an axially placed manifold 7 whence radial ducts 30 and annular passages 31 lead to terminal inlet ports 32 in each cylinder. Distribution is controlled by ported valve-plates 33, 34 fixed to the crankshaft and rotary member 25 respectively. Toothed gearing connects the cylinder-block and crank-shaft causing them to rotate in opposite directions.
