489,740. Motor-vehicle driving-gear; variable speed gearing. LAGONDA MOTORS, Ltd., (formerly L. G. MOTORS (STAINES), Ltd.), and SEWELL, C. W. March 15; 1937, No. 7510. [Class 79 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIV] Relates to transmission systems of the kind in which a one-way clutch 3 is provided between the main or friction clutch 2 and a lay-shaft gear-box 1, locking means for the one-way clutch being associated with the main clutch control so that the one-way clutch is automatically released to allow of free-wheeling when the main clutch is disengaged. According to one feature of the invention, the gear-box 1 is of the synchromesh type. According to another feature, the locking means of the oneway clutch, which is preferably connected by a link 7 to the clutch pedal 6, has combined therewith a balking means operative to prevent re-engagement of the locking means until synchronism is reached in the one-way clutch.
