Abstract
523,469. Gearing; clutches. SINCLAIR, H. Dec. 30, 1938, No. 37930. [Class 80 (ii)] In change - speed or other gearing a dogclutch member 16 is actuated by a lever 24 through a shift-rail 23 and is adapted to be held in a position where its teeth 18 lightly clatter over the teeth 14 or resilient projections 30 of the gear member 13 by a spring-detent member 34 coming up against the end of a notch 37a, 37b in the shift-rail. The clattering of the teeth or projections produces a vibration in the control member 24, the reduction in the frequency of which indicates to the operator the approach to synchronism when by additional effort to overcome the spring-detent 34 the dogclutch 16 can be engaged. Where a resilient projection 30 is not employed one at least of the clutch teeth has a rounded end and projects beyond the other teeth. Specification 493,703, [Group XXIX], is referred to.
