489,132. Polishing floors &c. ; confining dust on generation. PAINE, H. SCOTT-. May 31, 1937, No. 15085. [Class 60] [Also in Group XXVIII] A portable polishing machine for treating floors, decks, &c. comprises a Hexible polishing disc 14 carried by the lower end of the spindle, 13 of an electric motor 10. to which is secured a metal frame 15 having axially spaced flanges 17. Slidable in the flanges are a number of pins 18 pressed by springs 19 and carrying on their projecting ends a ring 21 to which is sewn a strip 22 of thick felt extending below the surface of the disc 14; a canvas cover 23 sewn inside the felt extends upwardly and is secured inside the frame 15 by a ring 24. In operation, the felt ring rests on the work, and dust generated is thereby confined to the chamber surrounding the disc ; it is extracted to a suction device through a pipe 25 extending some distance circumferentiaily around the frame 15 as volute chamber. A fan 27 may be provided on the spindle 13.
