527,638. Leather: brushing machines. TANNING PROCESS CO. April 11, 1939, No. 10925. Convention date, April 8, 1938. [Class 76] [Also in Group XXIII] Brushing machines particularly for brushing hides, skins or the like, comprise a rotary brush or brushes 2:4 in which improved means are provided as by a roll 14 for applying water to the brush on which the amount of water may be regulated. The application of liquid by the roll 14 to the brush minimizes any tendency for the generation of charges of static electricity during the operation of the brush. The brushes are rotated in opposite directions about 300 r.p.m in an enclosed chamber 8, an opening 10 being provided for a workpiece 6. A duct 12 leads to a suction fan to carry away dust. Charges of static electricity are apt to be generated on both surfaces of the leather workpiece and also on the brushes and on dust particles. To minimize this a roll 14 in contact with the brush 4 applying water from a reservoir 16. The roll 14 is preferably rotated in the same direction as the brush about 15 r.p.m. To regulate the amount of water a second roll 18 is carried by arms 20 pivoted at 22 and adjusted by a screw 26 carried by arm 24 on the same shaft. There are no substantial draughts of air behind the brush at 32, 33.
