Abstract

732,715. Cleaning boots and shoes. LEEDAM, C. Aug. 25, 1952 [Aug. 21, 1952], No. 20974/52. Class 138 (1). Apparatus for wiping footwear of pedestrians comprises a rotary cleaning brush 25 rotatably supported on a horizontal axis, either in a casing 24, Fig. 1, having an open top, or between spaced wall brackets 31, Fig. 2, the top of the casing 24 or the tops of the brackets 31 being upwardly inclined to a horizontal plane from the front to rear thereof, and a correspondingly inclined trend grid 12, Fig. 1, or 32, Fig. 2, arranged in the said open top or between the tops of the brackets, with the tips of the bristles of the brush 25 projecting through the grid 12 or 32. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 the brush is driven from an electric motor housed in a cover 26 through gearing 27 both mounted on the casing, which is also provided with a hand rail 28. In the embodiment of Fig. 2, a downwardly inclined grid 33 between the brackets 31 is provided below the brush 25 and a hand rail 28 is also mounted on the brackets. The tops of boots or shoes may be cleaned in this case by inserting the foot in a recess 34.
