Abstract

241,626. Lister, R. B., and Perry, J. July 24, 1924. Dust, confining and expelling on generation.- Dust-removing apparatns for grinding and polishing machines wherein a suction fan is mounted in a casing and driven from the main machine is constructed with the fan bearings in the walls of the casing, with internal deflectors or baffles and a cover which is adjustable in relation to the grinding wheel. The casing may have a primary and a secondary inlet disposed at different positions relative to the wheel. Beneath the griding wheet 1 is disposed a casing 7 having bearings for the spindle 8 of a fan 5 which is driven by belting from the wheel spindle 2. The casing has a hood 9 adjustable at 10 and pivoted at 11, and a side panel which is pivoted at 12. Raffles 15, 16 are placed to the casing which has an outlet at 13. The baffle may be of multiple or grating form. Alternatively, the fan may be on the same level as the wheels, the casing extension being adjustable horizontally instead of vertically. in a modification, the main casing has a branch dust with a suction inlet disposed at right angles to the main inlet, this secondary inlet of adjustable dimensions.
