[Class 60] A machine for cleaning articles by means of a sand-blast comprises a box 1 closed at the top and having therein several centrifugal wheels 5 mounted on a shaft 2, sand &c. being fed to the desired number of wheels from a receptacle 7 through discharge tubes 6 controlled by a slide 8. The lower end of the box is formed by a continuously operating conveyer 11 supported by rollers 11<1> on axles 12, 12<1> and driven by a motor 15, a chain &c. and a shaft 14. In operation, the upper part of the conveyer is lifted to the position shown in full lines by movement of the axle 12 by means of a lever 13, so that as the articles being treated reach the upper end of the conveyer, they roll back to the lower end and are again treated. The articles are inserted through a closable opening 9 and may be removed at the upper end of the conveyer through an opening 10<1> by lowering the conveyer to the position shown in dotted lines, or may be removed through a lower discharge opening 16<1> closable by a lid 16, the movement of the conveyers being reversed. In a modification, Fig. 3, the box 1 contains two sets of centrifugal wheels 5 and two inclined conveyers 11, the articles being pushed back from the top of the conveyers by rotating brushes 17; when these are swung down to the positions shown in dotted lines, the articles are discharged from the top of the conveyers. A sand outlet 19 and a device 20 for lifting the used sand to the receptacle 7 are provided ; the articles may be discharged at the lower end of the conveyers by spacing these apart at their lower ends. The centrifugal wheels may be replaced by compressed air sand blast jets.
