390,877. Road-sweeping machines. DREWRY, J. S., Kingston, Willian Way, and SHELVOKE & DREWRY, Ltd., Icknield Way, both in Letchworth, Hertfordshire. Nov. 5, 1931, No. 30700. [Class 107.] A road-sweeping machine comprises a rotary brush A which is mounted on a chassis B running either on one wheel or a plurality of wheels arranged in mono-track fashion, and is positively driven through suitable gearing directly or indirectly from a motor mounted on the chassis. The brush A may be mounted at an angle to the axis of the chassis B and may be either straight as shown in Fig. 1 (Prov.), or curved as shown in Fig. 4 (Prov.). In these examples, a single pneumatic-tyred wheel C is driven through chain gearing D from an internal-combustion engine E, and the brush A is driven from the wheel C through gearing including bevel pinions F, F<1>, and a universally-jointed shaft G. The single wheel C may be replaced by a double wheel C<1>. If the chassis is supported on wheels mounted on more than one axle, the wheels are arranged to follow the same track. In a further modification, the brush may be provided with steadying wheels J, Fig. 1 (Comp.), mounted on the brush casing A‹. A picking-up tray K is hinged to the front edge of the casing A<o> so as to extend over any desired portion of the width of the brush. If desired, the tray may be in the form of a rubber sheet attached to the casing. The brush A may be adjustable vertically by means of screw-threaded rods Ll.
