Abstract

205,310. Tallgren, H. April 18, 1922. Rotary-tool machines; weeds, destroying. - A rotary machine for destroying weeds without disturbing the soil comprises resilient wires or loosely-jointed members arranged to beat the weeds and the surface of the soil and then slide thereon. The beaters may be arranged in groups so as to thin out plants into rows. The wires 12 are mounted in a drum or roller driven by chain and spur gearing from the axle 3 of two travelling wheels 4. Discs 13 prevent lateral bending of the wires. The drum or roller is mounted on a pivoted frame 2 adjustably connected to the frame 1 carrying the draught shafts by rods 18 provided with slots 16, 17 to engage pins 15. A steadying- wheel may be provided. The drum may comprise transverse bars on which are threaded links to which T-shaped beating-members are loosely connected. The machine may be drawn by manual or horse power. The beater drum may be driven by a motor which may als6 drive the travelling wheels. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 17570/07.
