324,956. Mason, F. W., (Clarke, W. O. Murray-). Nov. 7, 1928. Pneumatic separating.-A machine for separating or cleaning tea consists of a casing 1, with an inlet opening 2 at its upper end, a. rotary device 4 by which the tea is distributed on a series of overlapping downwardly inclined shelves 7, 8, 9, and a fan or blower 15 which passes a current of air through the tea falling from the lowest, shelf and carries the lighter impurities out of the casing through an opening 16. A ledge 17 may be provided to collect the light or broken tea expelled by the air current, and the cleaned tea is collected in receptacles 12; which may be the chests in which the tea is packed, inserted in a space at the bottom of the casing. The rotary distributing device may consist, of a number of radial blades 5 or a horizontal rotating disc. The fan described consists of radial blades 18 mounted on a shaft 19. The inlet 20 to the fan is preferably arranged near the shaft and the outlet 22 may be connected directly to the casing as shown or by means of a suitable conduit.
