Abstract
203,849. Sainsbury, E. July 24, 1922. Continuous-discharge apparatus, rotary.-In a rotary machine for grinding and sifting basic slag, slag phosphates or similar materials, containing from 5 to 20 per cent of moisture, and in which the final screening-medium constitutes the outer surface of the rotating portion of the apparatus, the apparatus is enclosed in a casing to which a current of hot air or other heated gases is supplied to play directly upon the screening-medium and permeate the material to absorb the moisture therefrom. The invention is shown as applied to a ball mill B which is enclosed within a casing. C having a discharge shoot E for the ground material and an outlet F for heated air supplied from stoves H, preferably of the slow-combustion type. The hot air passes through the screens G, G<1>, G<11> of the mill and permeates the charge of basic slag &c. under treatment. An exhaust fan may be connected to the outlet F, and the exhaust gases may be led to a settling-chamber for the recovery of dust. Plates J shield the openings where the hot air enters the chamber C.
