Abstract

399,327. Cleaning hides. HERTZSCH, P., 2, Promenadenweg, Markranstadt, near Leipsic, Germany. Oct. 27, 1932, No. 30168. Addition to 340,940. [Class 138 (i).] In the process of drying hides with simultaneous cleaning thereof by subjecting the hides to heat and to an agitating movement accompanied by suction, as described in the parent Specification, the cleansing agents are allowed to pass out freely with the stream of air, by which they are taken to a separator, whence the air is discharged and the finely divided cleansing agents returned to the drying chamber. The separator may be heated to dry the cleansing agents before their return to the drying chamber. In the form illustrated, the hollow journal e of a rotary drying drum a is connected to the suction side of a blower k which delivers to a jacketed separator m having an outlet o surrounded by a funnel p connected to the trunnion e<1>. Atmospheric air may be supplied to the drum through a perforated cover y and adjustable ring z on the funnel p. Heated air is delivered from the pipe c, which is surrounded by a heating jacket q supplied from the jacket r of the separator m. The grids u in the drum serve to keep the skins away from the air inlet and outlet.
