Abstract

171,772. Porteus, G. Aug. 20, 1920. Air, heating and treating; forced ventilation.- Air is drawn through a purifying apparatus by a fan 7 and passed to a room &c. The purifying apparatus comprises a casing 1 in which wire cages containing porous asbestos material are fitted, one section 10 being sprayed from atomizers 20 with purifying liquid and the upper section 11 serving to dry the air drawn upwardly through the casing by the fan 7. Water is sprayed down the air inlet tube 4 to remove suspended matter. The purified air may be warmed or dried by a steam or hot water coil 29. Liquid collecting in a chamber 3 is circulated by a pump 19, admission of a strong solution from a vessel 21 being controlled by a valve 22. To clean the apparatus, boiling water and steam are admitted through a pipe 27 having an atomizer 28 and discharged through a pipe 14, after which antiseptic from the vessel 25 is introduced with the steam to sterilize the asbestos pieces.
