Abstract

253,041. Himmelsbach Akt.-Ges., Geb.. Nov. 30, 1925, [Convention date]. Wood, treating with liquids and gases.-Wood previous to its treatment with a salt such as mercuric chloride, sodium fluoride, zinc chloride or the like, is first steamed at a high temperature to heat and moisten the outer layer, then dried at a temperature up to about 150‹ C. in order to produce cracks or crevices, then again steamed, sometimes accompanied by hot spraying and maintained at the same temperature until it is steeped in the salt solution. The wood is treated in a chamber a supplied with steam by a pipe d, after steaming the steam is admitted to radiator pipes e to dry the wood. After drying steam is again admitted through the pipe d and the hot condensate which accumulates in the chamber is pumped over the wood through perforated spray pipes g. Acid, cresol, hexanol or homologues thereof may be added to the condensate. The perforations are preferably in the upper part of the pipes g to spread the liquid more evenly over the wood.
