Abstract
334,660. London Power Co., Ltd., and Pearce, S. L. July 16, 1929. Gases, washing.-Flue gases enter a chamber a and are saturated with warm water from atomizers b separated by baffle-board scrubbers or partitions of packing material e, and after a change in direction the gases are washed by sprays f in a tower g containing wood, fireclay, metal tubes, earthenware or porcelain. The gas then turns to pass up towers k, l containing filling materials over which flows alkaline wash water. The gas passes on through perforated moisture eliminators m in baffle form to a chimney n, at the base o of which ozone or hot air is added. Iron or other catalyst is used in the chamber a to assist in oxidizing sulphur dioxide fumes; in this chamber liquid is atomized at 175-180‹ F. and recirculated. Blowers or other grit extractors are associated with the chamber a.
