Forced ventilation; air, heating, humidifying and treating.-Apparatus for controlling the condition of the air in a room or the like, comprises a self-contained water spray chamber, a superposed air heater, and means to cause the air to pass through said chamber both in the direction of, and contrary to the direction of, the water spray and finally through the air heater. The spray chamber consists of a removable open-top tank 26 within a frame 25 upon which is mounted centrally a casing 17 carrying heating coils 16, fans 14 and air outlets 15. Air enters the tank through openings 13 and travels in the direction of and in contact with water from sprays 47, round depending baffles 48 and then contrary to the direction of the spray water, past baffles 68 for the removal of moisture, and finally past heating coils 16 to be discharged into the room. A supply of water to the bottom of the tank 26 is regulated by a float-controlled valve and from this supply water is drawn by a pump 27, Fig. 3, driven hy a motor 31 and is passed through a heater 41 with heating-coils 42 and thence to the spray nozzles 47. For regulating the humidity of the air, the temperature, of the spray water is automatically controlled by a valve 50 in the steam pipe leading to the heater 41, said valve being controlled either by a humidostat 53 located in the room or by a thermostat in the water of the tank 26. For automatically maintaining a constant room temperature, a valve in the steam pipe leading to the air heater 16 is controlled by a thermostat in the room. A screen plate 70 is provided near the bottom of the tank 26 for filtering the spray water. In a modification, the air heater casing 17 is mounted at the front of the spray chamber, the air entering through a single inlet behind the casing. The apparatus may be used for dehumidifying by shutting off the steam supply to the heater 41 and thus allowing cold water to be discharged by the sprayers.
