Abstract

368,961. Thermostats. HALL & KAY, Ltd., KAY, P., HALL, S., and MYERS, A., Stockport Road, Ashton-under-Lyne. Feb. 25, 1931, No. 5852. [Class 64 (ii).] In a method of conditioning air or other gas, more particularly for ventilation, in such a manner as to maintain a constant predetermined temperature and humidity, the air or gas is passed through a spraying device the water supply to which is controlled by a thermostat actuated by the temperature of the conditioned air or gas and the temperature of which is controlled by a thermostat actuated by the temperature of the unconditioned air or gas. Within a conditioning chamber 2 having an air inlet 4 and an outlet 5 are arranged sprayers 3 supplied with water from a tank 9 at the bottom of the chamber by means of a pump 7. The amount of water supplied to the sprayers is regulated by means of a byepass 11 and a three-way valve 12 under the control of a thermostat 13 at the outlet 5, adapted to cut off the water supply when the temperature of the conditioned air falls below a predetermined temperature. The water of the tank 9 is circulated by pipes 20, 23 and a pump 22 through a cooling tank 21. A motor 24 driving this pump is controlled by a thermostat 25 at the inlet 4. A steam heater 26 and a pan type humidifier 27 both under the control of a thermostat 28 are arranged between the thermostat 24 and a series of baffles 19 forming the inlet to the spraying chamber and serving to arrest the spray. After leaving the sprays the air passes a filter 15 and a water eliminator 14 which may be kept wetted by a spray 16. The supply of refrigerant to the coils 29 of the cooling tank may be controlled by a thermostat 30 or alternatively the control may be manual, the thermostat then serving to operate a signal such as a lamp 31. An additional heater 32 under the control of a thermostat 33 in the enclosure 34 being ventilated may be provided in the discharge duct of the supply fan 6.
