Abstract

Tobacco.-Nicotine, ammonia, &c. are extracted from tobacco by heating in a chamber a and passing the resulting gases and vapours in a closed circuit x, x<1> through a scrubbing or filtering device f and back to the heating chamber a. The device f contains substances such as charcoal, lime, tannic acid, phosphomolybdic acid, phosphotungstic acid, tungstic acid, or gypsum, in solid or liquid form, with or without a support such as pumice. As shown, the chamber a is provided with perforated shelves c for baskets of tobacco or tobacco products, and with electrical heating elements b.
