Abstract
204,318. Gelsenkirchener - Bergwerks- Akt.-Ges. Abteilung Schalke, and Opderbeck, E. Sept. 25, 1922, [Convention date]. Granulating or atomizing. - In granulating blast furnace and other fluid slag in centrifugal mills with the addition of water, the, whole of the cooling water is added in quantities limited by the amount which the heat supplied by the slag can convert into steam. In the centrifugal mill shown, the slag enters by an inlet a and falls on a high-speed rotary plate c provided with angular beating-members d by which the slag is thrown against a ring e and pulverized. The water is added through an inlet b and cools the slag, the steam formed serving partially to open the slag. The pulverized material passes through a funnel f on to a second rotary plate g, which is constructed as a fan and throws the material against a ring h whence it falls into a funnel i for removal. The fan acts to carry away steam and air with the material which leaves the mill in a dry state.
