Abstract
368,106. Impact pulverizers. HOLBECK, A. A., 11846, Lake Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A. April 8, 1931, No. 10373. [Class 59.] In a pulverizer comprising two rotary pulverizing elements 38, 39 driven separately, the material to be ground and the air current for discharging the material passes radially inwards of the pulverizing elements. The casing comprises a volute fan compartment 19 and a pulverizing chamber 18 lined with corrugated &c. plates 51. The pulverizer comprises separately driven discs 38, 39 provided with intercalating blocks 37, the discs being driven in the same or opposite directions by electric motors 16, 13. The shaft 42 of the motor 16 is connected to the disc 38 through a break-pin 44 and similarly the shaft 47 is connected to the disc 39 through a break-pin 48. A fan 50 is fixed rigidly to the shaft 47, and primary and supplementary air is admitted to the fan by rotary slides 57, 59 respectively. A hopper 23 is provided with a feed roll 23<1> guarded by a pivoted plate 24, the roll being combined with a lower, spring-pressed, pivoted plate 25 to control the flow of material. The speed of the roll is controlled by the position of a sliding pin 28, Fig. 6, mounted in a rotary disc 30 driven by a chain 33 from the shaft 47, the pin 28 being connected to a rod 27 operating a ratchet device 26<1> connected to the roll shaft. Magnets 35 for collecting tramp iron &c. are interposed between the hopper and a passage 22 formed in a hinged endplate 14, the passage communicating with a central opening in the endplate of the pulverizing chamber. The central opening is bounded by a semicircular plate 53 and beaters 52 on the shaft 42 throw the material deposited on the plate against the upper part of the lining 51 from whence it passes inwardly, against the action of centrifugal force, through the beaters 37 and central orifice 46 to the fan 50. Vanes 55 may be provided adjacent the outer edge of the disc 38 to prevent the material becoming clogged in the pulverizing chamber.
